RiskMathics Certificate Institute · About the Institute
A young institute with two decades of lineage.
Founded to separate certification from teaching.
The house that teaches and the institute that examines
RiskMathics was founded in Mexico City in 2005 as a training house for the financial sector. Since then it has trained more than 100,000 professionals across Mexico and Latin America through courses, diploma programs and executive programs; it is a member of the Futures Industry Association and organizes the Derivatives Challenge with MexDer, the Mexican Derivatives Exchange. Within that house, exam after exam, the practice of certifying investment desks, risk units, compliance functions and back offices at pension fund managers and insurers took shape.
Over the years, certifying stopped being one more format and became a different kind of responsibility. A teacher wants the student to learn. A certifier has to be prepared to fail that same student. Holding both under one roof demands a real separation: a legal entity of its own, an item bank of its own and collegiate bodies that answer neither to the school nor to the institutions under examination.
In 2025 that separation became an institute. RiskMathics Certificate Institute is the part of the group that does not teach: it builds the exam, audits it, administers it and awards the certification. The group's institutes prepare candidates; the RCI examines them. The exam can be taken with or without a preparation program, and no program guarantees the outcome. That is what it means to be a third party.
In 2026 the catalogue widens. It maintains the current certifications, recognized by CONSAR and CNSF in derivatives and structured instruments, and expands the catalogue to seventeen certifications organized by the function a professional leads rather than by title: pension funds and insurers under the Mexican regime; risk leadership and governance; markets, instruments and transactions; wealth and private banking; cross-cutting disciplines. Each one states its status, publishes its structure before it opens, and none is announced as recognized unless it is. Theory ends in the classroom. This is where the arena begins.
- 2005
RiskMathics is founded
RiskMathics Financial Institute opens in Mexico City as a training house for the financial sector: courses, diploma programs and executive programs for investment desks, risk units and senior management. Two decades later it has trained more than 100,000 professionals in Mexico and Latin America.
- 2024
ESG proposal to CONSAR
On 29 January 2024 the group formally petitions CONSAR to be recognized as an independent third party for the Certification of Officers in ESG Criteria, backed by a technical committee approved by its Certification Board and a preliminary syllabus. The ESG certification for pension fund managers remains without regulatory endorsement, and its page says so.
- 2025
RiskMathics Certificate Institute is born
Certification is separated from teaching and constituted as an institute in its own right: a separate legal entity, its own item bank and collegiate bodies independent of the school. It administers the current certifications: derivatives and structured instruments for pension fund managers, and derivatives for insurers.
- 2026
Three certifications become seventeen
The catalogue grows from three current certifications to seventeen: fourteen new ones, upcoming or in design, organized by the function a professional leads. For each one, domains, weights, exam format and price are published before it opens, and the exam fee is stated separately from the fee of the preparation program. The institute's site is published in four languages.
- 2027–2029
First exams
Financial Derivatives Specialist, Level I, in the first quarter of 2027. ESG, Climate Risk & Sustainable Finance Certification in the second quarter and Alternative Investments Certification in the third. Certified Chief Risk Officer and Certified Chief Credit Officer in 2028. Certified Insurance Risk & Strategy Professional in 2029. The others publish their first date once the item bank that supports them is complete.
Principles
Independence
The institute belongs to no institution it examines and does not teach to its own exam. Those who write and administer the items are not those who deliver the preparation programs, and no certification is conditional on taking a program with the group. That is the meaning of being a third party.
Psychometrics
Every exam follows a fixed recipe: a set number of items per subject and per level of mastery, according to what the role actually does. Every item states its subject, learning outcome and level. Two candidates in the same role face the same demand. The item bank is audited against the regulation in force and corrected whenever the rule changes.
Bloom's taxonomy, levels 1, 2 and 3
Exam items and mock exam items are built only with levels 1, 2 and 3 of Bloom's taxonomy: remember, understand and apply. That is what an objective item can measure rigorously, and what a role performs on the job. The institute explains it on every certification page and on a dedicated page.
Transparency
The structure of each certification is published before it opens: domains, weights, exam format, calendar and price. Each one states its status, current, upcoming or in development, and none is announced as recognized by a regulator unless it is. And so is what follows: the results of every exam are published each year in an open report.
By role, not by title
In the certifications recognized under the retirement savings regime, Investments, Risk Management, Regulatory Compliance and Back Office sit different exams: the person who decides a position is not assessed the same way as the person who records it or the person who stops it. The new certifications follow the same logic and are organized by the function a professional leads and by level.
Defined validity
A certification is not a certificate of attendance. Current certifications are awarded with a validity of three years; they are not for life, because the regulation is not either. For the new certifications, validity is stated before each exam opens.
The group's institutes
The RCI certifies; the institutes prepare. The RiskMathics group brings together fourteen verticals, among them schools, laboratories, conferences, media and talent; three of them deliver the catalogue's preparation programs, and each certification states which one. No program is a condition for the exam, and none guarantees its outcome. The certifying institute operates apart from all of them, with the independence its function requires.
RiskMathics Financial Institute
The school, since 2005
Training house for the financial sector of Mexico and Latin America. Courses, diploma programs and executive programs in derivatives, structured instruments, risk, credit, investment banking, ESG and alternative assets. It prepares candidates for most of the catalogue, from Derivatives Certification · Afores (CONSAR) to Certified Chief Risk Officer.
Private Wealth Management Institute
Private banking and wealth
The group's institute for wealth management and private banking. It delivers the preparation programs for Private Wealth Management Certification and for Private Banking Certification, Level I and Level II.
Quantum Computing Labs / Quantum Finance Labs
Quantum computing and artificial intelligence
The group's laboratories for quantum computing, machine learning and artificial intelligence applied to finance. They prepare candidates for Machine Learner Certification™ and for Quantum Financial Professional (QFP™).
Regulatory recognition
Neither CONSAR nor CNSF delegates its authority to a private body. They require the regulated entity to certify its staff, and they recognize a short list of independent third parties able to grant that certification. RiskMathics is one of them, in the subjects and roles the regulation specifies.
In derivatives and structured instruments, the institute certifies the staff of pension fund managers (Afores) as an independent third party under Article 70 of the General Provisions on Financial Matters of the Retirement Savings Systems (Disposiciones de carácter general en materia financiera de los Sistemas de Ahorro para el Retiro), together with the related Articles 122 and 140. CONSAR's portal currently lists three bodies for derivatives and only one for structured instruments: RiskMathics. In derivatives, CNSF additionally recognizes RiskMathics in Annex 8.4.2 of the Single Insurance and Surety Circular (Circular Única de Seguros y Fianzas) to certify the investment and risk-management roles of insurance institutions. An exam passed here satisfies a regulatory obligation, not an employer's preference.
Recognition ends where the regulation ends. Upcoming certifications and those in development carry no regulatory recognition and inherit none from the current ones; they certify knowledge and competencies. ESG for Afores Certification is not endorsed at this time by any Mexican regulatory body and does not replace any certification required by CONSAR.
Recognition is not a trophy. It is a responsibility renewed at every exam: the item bank is audited against the regulation in force and corrected when the regulation changes.
Exam governance
A certifier is judged by its exam. The institute operates under the rules the retirement savings regime requires of an independent third party and applies the same method to the entire catalogue, whether or not a certification carries regulatory recognition: its own item bank, published weights and an exam by role or by level.
A Certification Board approves the operating manuals and the content update policies. Technical committees for each certification, made up of professionals of recognized standing in the financial system and academia, define content, study guides, weights and items, separately from those who deliver the preparation programs.
An exam that can be failed obliges the certifier to state what follows. The Certification Board is defining the failure and retake policy: how many attempts each window allows, the minimum wait between them, the retake fee and the treatment of levels already passed. Until it is approved, every certification shows it as “to be confirmed” in its exam block and the figures may be requested at growth@riskmathics.com.
- Independent collegiate bodies; in the certifications for Afores, with no employment relationship with the pension fund managers or their trade association in the previous two years, as the retirement savings regime requires.
- A living bank of 4,789 items in the current certifications, audited against the regulation; an item is withdrawn or rewritten when the rule changes.
- A fixed recipe per subject and level of mastery; in the current certifications, 120 items in four hours.
- Online exam on a Saturday, proctored over Zoom with official identification; 40 seats per date.
- Certification guide, policies, rules, fees and calendar published on the portal.
- Failure and retake policy under definition; its parameters are published in each certification's exam block as soon as the Certification Board approves them.
- A results report for every candidate, records kept for at least five years, and annual statistics submitted to the authority and published for the public in the annual results report.
- Channels for suggestions and complaints about the assessments.
- Content reviewed at least once a year.
- Credential verification by unique identifier, in development.
Public commitment
Results transparency
The statistics a certifier is required to file with the authority are not enough for the market to judge it. The institute holds itself to the standard of disclosure it asks of the whole sector: publishing results, not merely reporting them. Starting with the 2026 exam cycle, the RCI publishes an open annual report of results by certification and by role on this page.
- Pass rate by certification, by role and by level, with the number of candidates behind it.
- Sittings per exam window and distinct candidates.
- Retakes: the distribution of attempts per candidate and the share who pass after the first.
- Performance by subject: the spread of results across the blueprint's domains.
- Exam security incidents and complaints received, with their resolution.
- Content changes over the year: items withdrawn, rewritten and added when the regulation moved.
The report carries no personal data and no individual results: figures are aggregated by certification, role and exam window. When a window has so few candidates that a figure could identify a person, it is carried into the next period and the report says so. The first report covers the 2026 cycle and is published in 2027; its exact date is to be confirmed.
The exam is the promise.
The institute does not promise an outcome. It promises an exam that is published, audited and administered with the same demand for everyone. Those who pass demonstrate what they can do in their role; the institutions that require it hire with a visible cut-off line. Information: growth@riskmathics.com · +52 55 55 36 35 97 ext. 2023.
